National Museum of Qatar
Qatar Museums Authority celebrate the significant achievement of the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the initial National Museum of Qatar.
Drawing from the iconic exhibits of the past 50 years, the wealth of history within Qatar's art and cultural community and with a view to the future of art within Qatar, we provided the Museums Authority an exhibition solution showcasing the extraordinary achievements of Qatar over this timeline.
Spread across the Old Palace and one of the new galleries, we have created a historical journey of hundreds of physical and media based exhibits including immersive spaces and interactive journeys. The historical journey is juxtaposed with student art pieces from VCU reflecting the future of Qatar.
The Old Palace + Gallery 13
Beginning with a vision of the future, an immersive floor-to-ceiling LED space spotlights a young video and sound artist's installation. This leads into the courtyard of the Old Palace where each of the individual buildings house ancient artifacts and video storytelling providing context for each chapter.
In the main clearance of the courtyard, we construct a replica of a Bedouin tent and Majilis connected to a contemporary building that features key periods in the museum's history. There is also a striking installation with a circular array of video kiosks - each featuring a key museum staff member and their personal contribution stories.
Gallery 13 Installation
The modern gallery features both video and physical exhibits. I created a layered, translucent set of projected scrims with directional sound to accommodate the volume of video stories in a very small space. The journey is non-linear allowing for exploration and discovery.
